Tragedy struck on October 21, 2024, as two minor siblings were feared drowned in Kengeri Lake while attempting to fetch water. The victims have been identified as Laxmi, aged 11, and her 13-year-old brother Srinivas.
According to local authorities, the incident took place between 5:30 and 6 PM. Emergency rescue teams, including the fire control unit and patrolling squads, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Reports indicate that the siblings lived with their mother, who is employed by the Bengaluru civic body, following the recent passing of their father.
Initial investigations suggest that a water pot fell into the lake, prompting the children to go after it. Unfortunately, both were reportedly unable to swim.
The fire and emergency services conducted a search operation for the missing children but had to suspend efforts due to deteriorating light and weather conditions. The search is set to resume at 6 AM on Tuesday.
