The Superintendent of Police for the Government Railway Police has taken decisive action by suspending two constables at the Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur for their involvement in concealing a substantial haul of 9 kg of ganja.
Constables S. Chandru, 42, and V. Manikandan, 38, were suspended under the Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules of 1955. Both constables have been stationed at Jolarpet for several years, with Chandru hailing from the town itself, while Manikandan is from Erode district.
The incident occurred on September 3, when the constables were on patrol at the station. They discovered an abandoned bag on platform 4 that contained the ganja. Instead of reporting their findings, they chose to conceal the drug in the police personnel’s resting room, with the seized ganja estimated to be worth around ₹1.5 lakh.
Rumors surfaced alleging that police personnel on duty had seized a bag containing cash and jewelry. Prompted by these allegations, senior officers investigated the matter and uncovered the hidden ganja in the resting room.
Authorities confirmed that the constables neglected their responsibility to hand over the seized drug to the station authorities. As a result, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against both officers for their failure to act appropriately.
