President Trump announced a significant economic measure, stating he will impose a 25% tariff on aluminum and steel imports starting Monday. This proclamation was made during his flight on Air Force One to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
The President further indicated plans to implement reciprocal tariffs on “everyone” by midweek, asserting, “If they charge us, we charge them. That’s all,” emphasizing that “every country will be reciprocal.”
The specifics on when these tariffs will take effect remain unclear. Trump affirmed, “Any steel coming into the United States is going to have a 25% tariff. Aluminum too.”
In addition, Trump mandated that no foreign entity should hold a majority stake in U.S. Steel and encouraged Nippon Steel to undertake a substantial investment in the firm.
He is also scheduled to meet with Saudi Arabia’s Prime Minister and Egypt’s President in the near future. Furthermore, Trump noted intentions to engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin “at the right time,” while keeping details about prior communications undisclosed.
