MIAMI — President Donald Trump recently lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, labeling him a “dictator without elections.” This statement follows Zelenskyy’s accusation that Trump is being swayed by Russian disinformation regarding the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Trump questioned Zelenskyy’s leadership, stating, “Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, persuaded the United States to spend $350 billion on a war that couldn’t be won and never should have started. Without the U.S. and myself, Zelenskyy will not be able to settle this conflict.” Before entering politics, Zelenskyy gained fame as a popular television star in Ukraine.
In his comments, Trump emphasized Zelenskyy’s lack of electoral legitimacy, referring to him as “A Dictator without Elections.”
Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, elections in Ukraine that were set for April 2024 have been postponed.
Zelenskyy, for his part, accused Trump of operating within a Russian-designed “disinformation space.”
