Former President Donald Trump has positioned himself as a staunch supporter of Israel, urging Jewish voters to reconsider their support for Vice President Harris.
During the Israeli-American Council summit in Washington, D.C., Trump commemorated the events surrounding the October 7 attacks that instigated the current conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In front of a largely supportive audience, Trump emphasized his historical backing of Israel and made alarming claims about the fate of the Jewish state, stating that it could face imminent destruction without his election.
“It’s total annihilation — that’s what you’re talking about,” Trump asserted. “You have a big protector in me. You don’t have a protector on the other side.”
He further criticized Harris for allegedly catering to Hamas supporters and suggested that Jewish individuals have no justification for backing her Democratic campaign. This sentiment echoes Trump’s longstanding accusation that Jewish Democrats are not loyal to Israel.
In contrast, Harris has expressed her commitment to Israel’s right to self-defense while also acknowledging the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The Hamas attack on October 7 resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths, primarily among civilians, and led to over 200 hostages being taken, including American citizens. In Gaza, health officials report that more than 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since that day.
Trump’s remarks come shortly after the tragic discovery of 23-year-old Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, among others, who was found dead within a Hamas tunnel in Gaza.
Other noted speakers at the event included Republican Representative Elise Stefanik from New York and prominent Republican donor Miriam Adelson.
