Donald Trump has confirmed his agreement to participate in a debate with Vice-President Kamala Harris, scheduled for September 4, as proposed by Fox News.
Originally, Trump was set to face current president Joe Biden in a debate organized by another network on September 10. However, Biden’s withdrawal from the race has led to Harris stepping in as Biden’s replacement for this upcoming event.
Trump stated that the debate with ABC News has been “terminated” following Biden’s exit. As of now, Harris has not issued a public response regarding the Fox News debate.
The two candidates will vie for the presidency on November 8, following Harris’s formal selection as the Democratic nominee earlier this week.
If realized, this Fox News debate will mark the second presidential debate of the election cycle and the first direct matchup between Harris and Trump. The event is anticipated to take place in Pennsylvania, a pivotal battleground state, though the exact location remains unconfirmed. Trump indicated that the moderators will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, with debate rules resembling those used in his prior debate with Biden.
In a recent communication, Trump mentioned, “If for any reason Kamala is unwilling or unable to debate on that date, I have agreed with Fox to do a major Town Hall on the same September 4th evening.”
Biden exited the presidential race on July 21, citing it was “in the best interest of my party and the country,” following concerns regarding his health after a challenging debate performance and subsequent public gaffes. He endorsed Harris, who garnered substantial backing from the Democratic establishment and officially became the nominee on Friday.
At a rally in Atlanta, Harris directly challenged Trump to debate her, declaring, “if you got something to say, say it to my face.”
