Nine Inch Nails duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have clinched the award for Best Original Score at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards for their work on Challengers. They triumphed over notable contenders including Daniel Blumberg (The Brutalist), Hans Zimmer (Dune: Part Two), Volker Bertelmann (Conclave), Kris Bowers (The Wild Robot), and Camille and Clément Ducol (Emilia Pérez). This marks the sixth nomination and third victory for Reznor and Ross in Golden Globe history.
The award was presented by Elton John, who enthusiastically celebrated the winners, followed by Brandi Carlile. While Reznor did not speak at the podium, Ross delivered an emotional acceptance speech. "This really means a lot, particularly in this special moment. First, I’d like to thank my best friend, my musical partner, the great Trent Reznor. The music never felt like a safe choice, but it always felt like the right one. I’d like to extend my gratitude to our visionary director, our friend Luca Guadagnino. To be honest, we always expected to get the call asking us to ‘turn it down a little,’ but it never came, and here we are."
In other news from the Golden Globes, Camille and Clément Ducol took home the award for Best Original Song with “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez, surpassing competition from Reznor and Ross with “Compress/Repress” from Challengers, as well as other notable entries from Miley Cyrus, Maren Morris, and Robbie Williams.
Last year’s Golden Globe for Best Original Score was awarded to Ludwig Göransson for Oppenheimer, while Billie Eilish and Finneas won Best Original Song for “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie.
