Changi Airport in Singapore is revolutionizing the travel experience by leveraging facial recognition and iris biometrics, allowing passengers to clear immigration in just 10 seconds. This innovative technology has resulted in a remarkable 60% reduction in average immigration wait times, decreasing from 25 seconds to just 10, as confirmed by Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
Ranked among the world’s top airports, Changi now offers passport-less clearance across all four passenger terminals. Residents of Singapore, including permanent residents and long-term pass holders, can enjoy seamless arrivals and departures without the need to present their passports. While foreign visitors must show their documentation upon arrival, they can also take advantage of passport-less exit procedures.
Since the full implementation of the facial scanning system on September 30, nearly 1.5 million travelers have successfully cleared immigration without a passport. With approximately 49.9 million passengers passing through Changi in the year up to September, the airport is on track to reach pre-pandemic traffic levels.
