Rangers Vice-Captain Connor Goldson Returns to Cyprus for Move to Aris Limassol
Rangers vice-captain Connor Goldson is set to finalize his transfer to Aris Limassol in Cyprus. The 31-year-old defender initially traveled for discussions with the club but returned to participate in a friendly match against Birmingham City on Wednesday. Although he was included in the squad for the outing at St Andrew’s, his departure followed a formal bid from the Cypriot team, with a medical yet to be arranged.
Since joining Rangers in 2018, Goldson has contributed to the team’s success, securing a Scottish Premiership title, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup, as well as reaching the Europa League final in 2022. His potential exit, alongside ongoing negotiations with Trabzonspor regarding captain James Tavernier, could result in over £70,000 in weekly wage savings for the club as manager Philippe Clement seeks to rebuild the squad.
Dutch club FC Twente is reportedly in talks to sign Rangers forward Sam Lammers for over £2 million. The 27-year-old had a successful loan spell at FC Utrecht last season, netting 11 goals in 20 appearances after joining Rangers for approximately £3.5 million last summer.
As the August 1 deadline to register players for the Champions League qualifier approaches, Rangers are also in advanced discussions to sign Vaclav Cerny from Wolfsburg on loan. The club has already made significant additions to its roster this summer, bringing in seven new players, with adjustments including the permanent acquisition of Mohamed Diomande.
During a recent pre-season camp, manager Clement indicated that the club would consider offers for most players, except goalkeeper Jack Butland, who he deemed irreplaceable. This could open the door for other players, such as Todd Cantwell, Scott Wright, and Cyriel Dessers, to exit if any interest manifests into firm bids.
In light of these developments, all eyes remain on Rangers as they navigate potential departures and seek to enhance their squad ahead of the competitive season ahead.
