The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission has reported a tragic road accident on the old Oyo/Ogbomoso road that occurred on Friday night, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to three others.
The collision involved two vehicles carrying a total of 11 passengers. The injured are currently receiving medical care at Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, while the deceased have been taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Details reveal that the incident involved a white commercial truck, which lacked visible registration, and an ash-coloured space bus identified by its registration number LRN 185 YR. Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash, described as a head-on collision on a single carriageway, was caused by speeding. Of the fatalities, three were men and two were women; the injured included two men and one woman, while three men traveling in the vehicles were unharmed.
Authorities are emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices, urging motorists to refrain from wrongful overtaking and speeding.
Items recovered from the accident scene included various personal belongings such as travel bags, school bags, a first aid kit, smartphones, and cash. The two vehicles involved in the collision have been impounded by law enforcement officials.
