A tragic incident in Wayanad district, Kerala, has resulted in the death of a 24-year-old woman and injuries to three others after a makeshift tent collapsed at a local resort. The event occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday at 900 Kandi Ecopark in Meppadi.
The victim, identified as Nishma, hailed from Akampadam near Nilambur in Malappuram district.
Authorities reported that the temporary structure, constructed from wooden poles and dry grass for thatching, failed and fell upon the four tourists. An investigation has been launched to assess whether safety regulations were violated, and a case has been registered. Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment.
In a related story from neighboring Tamil Nadu, a 77-year-old German tourist tragically lost his life after being attacked by an elephant in Coimbatore district. Michael Jurcen was riding his motorcycle through Tiger Valley in the Valparai Range when he encountered the elephant.
Despite warnings from fellow motorists who had halted due to the elephant’s aggressive behavior, Jurcen attempted to pass, resulting in a fatal attack. He was initially taken to WaterFalls Estate Hospital before being moved to Pollachi Government Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
