ECNETNews, New York, NY, September 9, 2024: A tragic wrong-way collision on Interstate 85 near Exit 62 has resulted in the death of esteemed Georgia physician and Guyanese immigrant, Dr. Malcolm Goodchild. The accident occurred on Saturday, September 7, when local authorities responded to a head-on crash involving a Tesla and a Toyota 4Runner at approximately 7:17 p.m.
Dr. Goodchild, age 50, was the driver of the Tesla when it collided with the 4Runner, which is believed to have been traveling in the wrong direction on the exit ramp. He was airlifted to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. One passenger in the Tesla survived with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the 4Runner remains in the hospital with severe injuries.
A dedicated general and trauma surgeon certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Goodchild practiced at multiple hospitals across Georgia, such as Jack Hughston Memorial and Piedmont Columbus. He also served as an associate professor at Morehouse School of Medicine, recognized for his compassionate care and commitment to mentoring future medical professionals.
Dr. Goodchild specialized in Minimally Invasive General Surgery, performing minimally invasive procedures as well as surgeries for both benign and malignant breast conditions.
He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica and completed his residency at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York City. Dr. Goodchild furthered his expertise with a fellowship in Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx, New York.
