In a dramatic turn of events at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala, former Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), B. Karunakar Reddy, publicly vowed to affirm his innocence amid ongoing allegations of adulterated ghee in the preparation of laddu prasadam. The statement came during a ceremonial event on September 24.
Holding a camphor lamp, an emotional Mr. Reddy took his vow at the Akhilandam in front of the temple complex, addressing the gravity of the accusations.

Mr. Reddy declared, “If found guilty of any wrongdoing, I am ready to face any punishment. I pray to the Lord not to spare me or my family if I have committed any sinful act.” He denounced the allegations as unfounded attacks against him and the YSRCP party.
“Throughout my tenure, I have never participated in deceitful practices,” he stated, emphasizing his dedication to the temple. “These claims are politically motivated, aimed at damaging the reputation of the YSRCP and stirring public unrest.”
Highlighting the restrictions on political statements within the temple jurisdiction, Mr. Reddy expressed the necessity of his public defense, admitting to the “desperation that led him to this unusual decision.”
Law enforcement intervened, escorting him from the premises after he disregarded requests to refrain from political activities. Earlier that day, police issued a warning under Section 41 upon his arrival at the local tollgate, advising him against any political engagement in the temple town.
