President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in discussions with leaders of the Pan Niger Delta Forum at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.
The meeting commenced at 04:15 PM local time when the President arrived. This significant gathering was convened to honor the legacy of the late Edwin Clark, a prominent elder statesman and influential figure in the region. In remembrance of Clark, who passed away in February, attendees observed a moment of silence as requested by President Tinubu.
This is part of a broader initiative involving a series of meetings between the President and influential leaders from the Niger Delta. On January 21, 2025, President Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with key stakeholders from Rivers State, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike. The discussions focused on crucial matters, including the Ogoni cleanup project and various environmental and developmental challenges facing the Niger Delta.
During his remarks, President Tinubu underscored the importance of unity and collaborative efforts to address past grievances, stating, “We can’t heal past wounds if we continue to be angry.”
The agenda for the meeting includes statements from notable figures such as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of PANDEF, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, and Co-Chairman Obong Victor Attah, alongside a statement from PANDEF’s National Chairman, Godknows Igali, and the President’s response.
The meeting also includes prominent attendees such as Senator Seriake Dickson, Professor Mike Ozakhome, and several other key figures from the Niger Delta community, showcasing a collective commitment to fostering development and healing in the region.
