MINNEAPOLIS — Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz enjoyed a pork chop on a stick and a vanilla shake during a visit to the Minnesota State Fair on Sunday. The Minnesota governor was accompanied by his wife, Gwen, and their daughter, Hope, while a security detail followed closely behind.
As he strolled through the bustling fairgrounds, Walz expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “For those not from Minnesota, just to be clear, there’s a lot of great state fairs in the country, this is the best one. I can say that having tried pork chops in Iowa.”
The annual 12-day fair serves as an important platform for Minnesota farmers to showcase their products. Walz emphasized the significance of the state’s agricultural sector as he passed by vendors promoting mouth-watering treats with signs declaring “PUT SOME PORK ON YOUR FORK” and “#PORKPROUD.”
Crowds of fairgoers eagerly gathered to shake hands with Walz and capture moments with him in photographs. The increased attention on Walz, resulting from his role as Kamala Harris’ running mate, brought heightened visibility to the fairgrounds in Falcon Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis.
Walz commented, “I think people are seeing that we’re getting to talk about Minnesota across the country, talk about the economy here, talk about things like the state fair, talk about agriculture.”
Looking ahead, Walz is scheduled to meet with union leaders in Milwaukee on Labor Day, continuing his engagement with key labor issues.
