Tiger Woods and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan have expressed their dedication to the reunification of golf following a productive meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump. The statement was made after a working session that included PIF Governor and LIV Golf Chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan, as well as PGA Player Director Adam Scott.
In their joint statement, the leaders highlighted the constructive nature of their discussions with President Trump, emphasizing the importance of moving forward quickly in their efforts to reunite professional golf. “We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world playing together more often and are committed to delivering that outcome for our fans,” the statement read.
President Trump remarked earlier that he had “interesting discussions” aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, which is backed by Saudi Arabia. He appeared at the White House for a Black History Month event, showcasing his Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The PGA Tour previously indicated on February 6 that a deal was nearing completion with the Public Investment Fund, indicating hope for a resolution to the long-standing split in professional golf.
Woods, a 15-time major champion, is working closely with Monahan and Scott to collaboratively address this issue. He noted optimism regarding the quick resolution of the divide while commenting during the CBS broadcast of the Genesis Invitational tournament.
Since its inception in 2021, LIV Golf has drawn some of the world’s top talent, but competitions between LIV and PGA Tour players occur infrequently.
As the discussions continue, the future of professional golf remains hopeful, with fans eagerly awaiting developments that could lead to a more unified sport.
