In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) apprehended a bill collector from Thuvakudi Municipality on Friday for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹50,000 in exchange for conducting a property tax assessment.
The incident came to light when Kathirvel, a 60-year-old property owner, sought assistance from the bill collector, Soundrapandian, regarding the tax assessment of his recently acquired land. Soundrapandian reportedly requested a bribe of ₹50,000 to facilitate the assessment process.
Following a complaint lodged by Kathirvel, DVAC initiated an investigation that culminated in the arrest of Soundrapandian as he received the bribe. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within public services.
