Tragedy struck in Nadiad, Gujarat, where three laborers lost their lives after consuming country liquor mixed with a mysterious substance, according to local police reports. The victims, who were engaged in various occupations such as painting and selling panipuris, succumbed to their fate in the Jawahar Nagar area late Sunday night.
Family members of the deceased indicated that the consumption of spurious liquor was the cause of death. A forensic examination confirmed that methanol was not detected in the liquor consumed.
The bodies of the three victims have been sent for post-mortem analysis to uncover the precise cause of death.
It’s important to note that Gujarat has maintained a prohibition on the manufacture, storage, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages since separating from the Bombay State in May 1960.
In related developments, local authorities recently arrested two individuals following the shutdown of an illegal liquor manufacturing operation in Mehsana district. The police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on the facility producing counterfeit foreign liquor by mixing various chemicals and alcohol, packaging it under the guise of well-known brands.
