KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A tragic accident has claimed the lives of three family members in Kalamazoo County after a tree fell on their vehicle during severe storms that swept through Michigan. This incident occurred on Sunday in Climax Township, approximately 130 miles west of Detroit. Authorities report that the area was under a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service.
Additionally, three other individuals were hospitalized due to injuries, with one person in critical condition. The situation is currently under investigation.
The storms have left over 400,000 residents without power across several states, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. Utility crews are actively working to restore electricity in the affected areas.
In Indiana, a warehouse was reported destroyed by the storms, although no injuries were associated with that incident. Meanwhile, in Tennessee, significant storm damage has been noted in counties such as Maury and Humphreys, where reports indicate extensive property damage, including a roof ripped off a house, trapping homeowners inside without injuries.
Looking ahead, clusters of thunderstorms, potentially with strong to severe wind gusts and the threat of tornadoes, are expected to impact much of the Southeast on Monday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
