Bandai Namco is preparing to launch a groundbreaking Tamagotchi Original next year, designed to resemble an egg and uniquely crafted from recycled eggshells. Set for release on February 5, 2025, the packaging will also feature eco-friendly recycled paper, combining nostalgia with sustainability.
The new Celebration Egg variant of the Tamagotchi Original will be available exclusively with a focus on environmental awareness, highlighting the brand’s commitment to planet-friendly initiatives. Priced at $30, this collectible device will allow users to bond with seven different adult characters.
Earlier this year marked the revival of the Tamagotchi Connection, which was celebrated for its 20th anniversary. This updated version allowed users to connect and interact with each other, even facilitating virtual marriages between their digital pets, showcasing Bandai Namco’s ability to leverage nostalgic elements effectively.
Additionally, the Tamagotchi brand has expanded with the introduction of the Tamagotchi Uni, launched in 2022, featuring online connectivity and coming with a wrist strap, resembling a sleektimepiece.
Since its initial release in 1996 in Japan and subsequent launch in the U.S. in 1997, the iconic Tamagotchi has sold approximately 91 million devices as of March 2023, solidifying its status as a beloved digital pet across generations.
