The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) anticipates a substantial increase in visitor numbers this year, fueled primarily by European travelers.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool announced on Sunday that European visitor numbers have surged significantly. From January to April, Thailand welcomed 3.5 million European tourists, reflecting an impressive 18.91% rise compared to the previous year, with notable contributions from visitors from Britain, France, Germany, and Russia.
Last year, Thailand recorded 1.74 million visits from Russia (up 17.72% year-on-year), 873,364 from Germany (up 19.78%), 965,862 from the United Kingdom (up 18.19%), and 281,803 from Israel (up 29.81%).
In the first four months of this year, Israel saw a dramatic 91.07% increase in visits, while Uzbekistan rose by 62.57%, Poland by 38.94%, and Romania by 32.54%.
Key markets showed robust growth, with visits from Britain increasing by 20.83%, France by 21.41%, and Germany by 13.03%. This growth is attributed to the resumption and introduction of direct flights to Thailand from cities such as Brussels, Copenhagen, London, Madrid, Oslo, Paris, Rome, and Stockholm.
Looking ahead, forward bookings for the July-September period have surged by 21%, with expectations of a 17% increase during the high season from October to December.
