Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been recognized as one of the “100 World’s Most Powerful Women 2024.” According to an announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office, she ranks 29th globally and is the third highest in Asia, following Sandy Ran Xu, CEO of a major Chinese e-commerce company, and India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Among Southeast Asian leaders on the list are Ho Ching, Temasek Trust chairwoman, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Finance of Indonesia, and Helen Wong, Group CEO of OCBC in Singapore, showcasing the region’s influential women in leadership roles.
Earlier this year, Ms. Paetongtarn was also featured in the “Time 100 Next” list, further cementing her status as a rising leader. At 37, she made history as Thailand’s youngest prime minister.
Upon assuming office, Ms. Paetongtarn has effectively addressed several national crises, including severe flooding and urgent safety concerns related to transportation incidents. Under her leadership, the government has implemented significant policies, including a three-year farmer debt suspension, tourism initiatives featuring free visas, a cash handout scheme, marriage equality legislation, and a universal healthcare project.
The 2024 Forbes Power List is based on key indicators such as financial resources, media presence, societal impact, and influence. Collectively, these 100 exceptional women wield approximately $33 trillion in economic power, demonstrating significant leadership across various sectors, including finance and technology. This list serves as a powerful reminder of women’s capabilities in positions of authority.
