In a significant move, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra delivered her inaugural monthly TV address on Sunday, highlighting the government’s accomplishments since the beginning of the year.
The program, titled Okat Thai Kap Nayok Paetongtarn (“Opportunities for Thailand with Prime Minister Paetongtarn”), is scheduled to air on the first Sunday of each month.
The Prime Minister emphasized the show’s purpose as a platform to communicate the implementation of government policies and ongoing advancements.
Among the updates, she announced enhancements to the 30-baht universal healthcare scheme, enabling patients to access medical services across the nation.
Additionally, the government has initiated the One District, One Scholarship program, aiming to provide summer camp funding for students in every district.
“All children, regardless of their backgrounds, should have this educational opportunity. I am confident this policy will yield positive results in the future,” she stated.
The PM highlighted the Ban Pheu Khon Thai (“Homes for Thais”) initiative, noting a favorable response from prospective homebuyers since its launch.
This project aims to provide affordable housing with excellent transport links, no required downpayment, and monthly mortgage payments starting at approximately 4,000 baht.
In her address, the Prime Minister also acknowledged the introduction of a marriage equality law that took effect on January 23, commending the collaborative efforts behind this long-awaited legislation.
During her recent attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, she showcased Thailand as a prime investment opportunity, highlighting the success of the Thailand Reception hosted there.
Addressing the ongoing PM2.5 pollution crisis, the PM admitted that despite comprehensive planning and multiple measures, air quality remains a challenge. She noted that the recent decision to offer free electric rail and public bus services reduced road traffic and emissions significantly.
Furthermore, she reported utilizing her connections with ASEAN leaders to address transboundary air pollution collaboratively.
In response to criticism regarding her clothing choices, she reiterated her focus on public satisfaction with government performance as her priority.
