The 33rd Summer Olympic Games, Paris 2024, kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony on the evening of July 26. The event featured participation from over 100 countries, showcasing leaders and dignitaries from around the globe.
Representing Thailand, the delegation was headed by Sermsak Pongpanit, Minister of Tourism and Sports, alongside notable officials including members of the International Olympic Committee and leaders from the Thai sports community.
The Thai flag was proudly carried by 12-year-old skateboarder Wareeraya Sukkasem and sprinter Phuripol Boonsorn during the ceremonial parade on a boat along the River Seine, positioned as entry number 184 after the Czech Republic.
This year’s opening ceremony marked a historic change as it extended beyond the confines of the stadium for the first time. The Olympic Games will continue from July 26 to August 11, featuring 329 gold medals across 32 sports, with Thailand fielding a delegation of 51 athletes competing in 17 disciplines.
Prior to the grand ceremony, a reception organized by the International Olympic Committee welcomed attendees, bringing together sports leaders and delegates from over 150 nations to celebrate the commencement of the Games.
