Six individuals involved in a drug trafficking and money laundering scheme, known as “Loverbois,” have been sentenced to prison after laundering between $15,000 and $50,000 in cryptocurrency and distributing nearly 12 kilograms of methamphetamine disguised as Adderall pills.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio announced the convictions on Oct. 8. The men from Texas ran a dark web operation engaging in illegal drug distribution and crypto laundering from July 2019 through December 2020.
Court records reveal that the group sold approximately 11.98 kilograms of meth pills and conducted around 20 transactions daily under the name “Loverbois” and other aliases.
Hung Ahn Huy Phung, the alleged mastermind, received the heaviest sentence of 84 months in prison. Four accomplices were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 60 to 75 months, while one member received five years of probation.
Phung was identified as the leader of the operation, managing the Loverbois account, taking online orders, and coordinating with accomplices to acquire and distribute pills, which were shipped using the United States Postal Service.
The network was exposed when they inadvertently sent pills to undercover officers in Ohio. In June 2021, a federal grand jury indicted the individuals, with the final sentencing for the last defendant, Kevin Tran, taking place on Sept. 30.
