HYDERABAD
The Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, M. Bhatti Vikramarka, has unveiled ambitious plans to establish large-scale solar and green hydrogen plants throughout the state, positioning Telangana as a leader in India’s energy transition towards renewable sources. This initiative aims to replace traditional thermal power with sustainable alternatives.
During a recent visit to a cutting-edge green hydrogen facility near Tokyo, Vikramarka observed firsthand the innovative production techniques implemented by a leading Power-to-Gas company, showcasing Japan’s advancements in renewable energy solutions.
Engaging with scientists and executives, the Deputy Chief Minister gained insights into the production of green hydrogen, battery energy storage systems, and various renewable technologies. He was accompanied by key state officials, including the Special Chief Secretary (Finance) and Secretary (Energy).
According to the team, the facility’s technology harnesses solar energy to electrolyze water, generating hydrogen and oxygen. The produced hydrogen serves multiple applications, from fueling racing cars to operation in industrial systems, all powered by solar energy, thus earning the label “Green Hydrogen.”
Vikramarka urged local authorities to expedite the development of similar green hydrogen plants in Telangana, emphasizing the state’s abundant water resources and ideal solar locations. He envisions Telangana as a central hub for green hydrogen production in India and directed his team to swiftly prepare proposals for the project. The green hydrogen generated could potentially supply fertilizer companies, the State Road Transport Corporation, and other industries, contributing to eco-friendly initiatives.
Additionally, the Deputy Chief Minister explored the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developed by the facility’s research team, designed to store excess solar power generated throughout the day, mitigating energy waste. He recognized the benefits this technology could bring to Singareni’s existing solar projects and the planned expansion of 1,000 MW.
In discussions with officials, Vikramarka proposed a joint venture for the introduction of green hydrogen plants and BESS technology in Telangana, reinforcing the state’s commitment to renewable energy advancements.
