MIAMI, USA – The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has launched a pair of initiatives, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), aimed at stimulating travel and enhancing trade opportunities.
Group Travel Incentives
Starting in December, the new Group Travel Incentives program provides attractive subsidies to non-Taiwanese tourists joining tour groups. To qualify, groups must spend at least three days and two nights in Taiwan, with travel valid until June 30, 2025. The subsidy amount varies based on group size and duration of stay, with additional bonuses for extended itineraries and visits to designated regions.
Promotional Campaign: “TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder”
In October, TTA unveiled the promotional campaign titled “TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder,” showcased at Eslite Cinema in Taipei. Under the themes SHARE, DISCOVER, ENGAGE, and ENJOY, the campaign highlights Taiwan’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural diversity.
The promotional video has garnered global attention, being recognized as an effective strategy to attract international visitors by offering exceptional travel experiences.
These initiatives mark significant steps toward showcasing Taiwan’s natural beauty, indigenous cultures, and sustainable travel opportunities, particularly in the picturesque regions of Hualien and Taitung.
Development of Taiwan’s Tourism Policies
The TTA’s initiatives reflect a commitment to responsible tourism policy development, fostering strong partnerships globally while enhancing collaboration in the tourism and trade sectors. Taiwan’s branding strategy aims to improve visibility and appeal, showcasing the island as a compelling destination throughout the year with careful attention to diverse audience preferences.
With a robust network of airlines, travel agencies, and diplomatic services, Taiwan ensures easy accessibility for international travelers. The country actively strengthens relationships with key economic partners to enhance mutual benefits.
These advancements are expected to facilitate further cooperation in small and medium enterprises (SME) discussions, bolstering economic relations.
New Year Celebrations
Taipei 101 will feature a spectacular fireworks display for New Year’s Eve themed “Team Taiwan Champion,” celebrating the national team’s triumph at the recent World Baseball Softball Confederation Premier12 2024 tournament. The vibrant show will integrate projection mapping and last for six minutes.
No visit to Taiwan is complete without experiencing the breathtaking Taipei 101 Observatory, alongside other stunning architectural feats across the city. A trip to Tainan City via high-speed train is highly recommended, offering a glimpse into Taiwan’s rich history, culture, and famous dining options.
Sustainable Tourism Achievements
Taiwan’s commitment to sustainable tourism has been internationally recognized, with nine entities honored at the 2024 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories award ceremony in Chile. This prestigious list includes six national parks, one artistic compound, one local government, and one hotel, highlighting Taiwan’s achievements in destination management and heritage preservation.
In total, seven travel sites and two firms from Taiwan were acknowledged in the 2024 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories. The director-general of the TTA emphasized Taiwan’s dedication to environmentally responsible tourism while fostering global partnerships to contribute to sustainable development.
As of December 3, 2024, Taiwan has welcomed over seven million foreign visitors, a trend expected to rise with additional flights and promotional efforts. With new offices opening in Jakarta, Mumbai, Paris, and Vancouver, and a tourism information center launching soon in Manila, Taiwan aims to generate NT$1 trillion (US$30.86 billion) in tourism-related economic output by 2028.
The Future of Taiwan
As a pivotal player in the global economy, Taiwan’s export-oriented economy accounts for roughly 70 percent of its GDP, ranking as the eighth-largest in Asia and the 20th-largest globally by purchasing power parity. SMEs, which employ over 9.2 million people, play a crucial role in this growth, contributing to a total revenue exceeding NT$26 trillion.
The strategies and policies supporting Taiwan’s tourism and SMEs are essential components of the government’s broader economic development initiatives, aimed at facilitating both domestic and international market progress.
Recently, Taipei has also been ranked 76th in the 2025 World’s Best Cities report, a survey involving over 22,000 respondents across 30 countries, highlighting its livability, charm, and economic prosperity.
