TAIPEI – The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) has officially signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding focused on research and development with a key agricultural organization, marking a significant commitment to improving global nutrition and health standards.
This important agreement was finalized on July 31, with MOA minister Chen Junne-jih leading the signing alongside representatives from ten MOA agencies. The collaborative effort aims to enhance innovative research and develop climate-resilient vegetable industries, benefiting both Taiwan and the global market.
The initiative underscores Taiwan’s position in the global agricultural sector, promoting the production of high-nutritional-value vegetables to combat malnutrition and poverty in developing regions.
According to the MOA, the agreement will grant access to a vast germplasm bank containing 330 species and over 60,000 strains from 155 countries, facilitating advanced agricultural research and innovation. “This partnership equips various agricultural institutes and stations under the MOA with invaluable resources including state-of-the-art equipment and access to an international research network,” the ministry stated. “This collaboration is expected to foster knowledge exchange between local scientists and leading global experts, significantly advancing the vegetable and seed industry in Taiwan.”
