TAIPEI – The Taiwanese government is committed to enhancing the competitiveness of its workforce and expanding global recruitment efforts as part of President Lai Ching-te’s vision to drive economic growth through innovation.
During a recent briefing, the National Development Council (NDC) outlined its ambitious project aimed at elevating national talent competitiveness. The initiative seeks to develop 450,000 professionals in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technologies by 2028, while also aiming to recruit 120,000 professionals and 80,000 technicians from international markets.
Highlighting the integral role of talent in economic and industrial advancement, the Premier emphasized the importance of investing in professional growth amid the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and digital transformation. This investment is essential for establishing an innovation-driven economic model and ensuring Taiwan’s continued contribution to global prosperity.
The NDC’s initiative is designed around six key strategies: nurturing talent in vital industries, enhancing digital skills alongside a foundation in humanities, facilitating international student exchanges, attracting foreign professionals in essential sectors, creating a comprehensive talent retention ecosystem, and improving the retention of skilled foreign workers at the intermediate level.
