Sweeping Promises has released a cover of the Bangles’ iconic Prince-penned hit "Manic Monday" as part of a new benefit compilation aimed at supporting wildfire relief efforts. The compilation, titled Battle for L.A.: A See/Saw Benefit, is now available for streaming, with the Sweeping Promises cover featured as track 18.
Lira Mondal of Sweeping Promises shared her unique connection to the song, recalling how her mother, a devoted Bangles fan, had her memorize it as a child. Mondal described, “It’s a bewildering memory to sing it publicly in the cosmetics aisle of a Walmart during one of my mom’s many jobs.”
The See/Saw compilation includes contributions from various artists within the DIY music scene, including Spllit, Tyvek, and Gee Tee, showcasing a diverse range of punk and rock influences. Cassettes for the compilation can be pre-ordered, with all proceeds going directly to individuals affected by the Eaton and Palisades Fires in Los Angeles this year. This initiative highlights the power of music to support communities in need.
