The Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspects and retrieved stolen goods valued at over N800,000.
Reports indicate that the theft occurred at St. Michael Archangel Catholic Church in Igode, located within the Sagamu area of Ogun State, in the early hours of Thursday. The crime was reported to authorities by Onojwu Aaron and other church members.
Among the stolen items were a generator worth N400,000, a large OX fan valued at N60,000, a music amplifier priced at N180,000, and various musical instruments totaling approximately N200,000, bringing the overall worth to N840,000.
A spokesperson for the police emphasized that they acted swiftly upon receiving the report, launching an investigation alongside local vigilante groups. This collaborative effort led to the arrest of the two suspects, identified as 21-year-old Destine John and 23-year-old John Peter, both originally from Benue State but residing in the Odongunyan area of Lagos.
The suspects were apprehended while hiding the amplifier in a tricycle in the Fakale area. One of the suspects denied the allegations, claiming he purchased the amplifier from a pastor but failed to provide proof. The other suspect stated that he was told to wait in the tricycle while his partner retrieved the amplifier, allegedly purchased from a pastor.
The police have documented statements from all involved parties, and the investigation is ongoing. Further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
