In a shocking incident, two young women in Secunderabad, Telangana, were compelled to keep their deceased mother’s body at home for nearly a week due to financial difficulties before intervention by local authorities.
C. Lalitha, a 43-year-old housewife from Warasiguda, passed away last week after battling illness. Her daughters, 25-year-old Ravalika, employed at a saree shop, and 22-year-old Ashvitha, an event planner, were unable to afford the costs associated with her cremation.
The family’s hardships deepened in 2020 when their father left, leading to a lack of financial support. The sisters lived in a separate room while their mother’s body remained in another part of the home.
The grim situation was uncovered when neighbors became aware of a peculiar odor emanating from the residence and alerted authorities. Following this, officials transported the body to a hospital for a postmortem examination.
Before police involvement, the sisters had sought assistance from a local multi-purpose hall to facilitate their mother’s cremation. The hall’s management subsequently contacted local police, prompting an investigation by the Boudhanagar Police Station.
Reports indicate that the family had relocated to Warasiguda just two months prior to this incident. The sisters had also reached out to a relative in Amberpet for help, but their pleas reportedly went unanswered.
Authorities continue to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
