Stevie Nicks has unveiled a powerful new single titled “The Lighthouse,” a poignant response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022. The release is accompanied by a compelling music video that captures the spirit of women’s marches and abortion rights rallies, featuring protesters brandishing impactful signs with messages like “Keep Abortion Legal” and “Get Mad,” as Nicks leads the charge along the beach.
In a recent statement, Nicks reflected on the inspiration behind “The Lighthouse,” revealing that she began writing the song shortly after the landmark ruling was overturned. She emphasized the urgency felt by many during this pivotal moment, stating, “What can we, as a collective force, do about this?… For me, it was to write a song.” The creative process began one early morning when a newscaster’s remarks resonated with her, prompting her to write the track the following day and record it that evening.
Nicks has dedicated significant effort to the song since its conception on September 6, 2022, expressing her belief in the importance of standing up for women and their rights. “This may be the most important thing I ever do,” she stated, highlighting her commitment to advocating for women and future generations.
Co-written with Magnus Birgersson and Vincent Villuis, “The Lighthouse” was co-produced by Nicks alongside Dave Cobb and Sheryl Crow, who also contributed on bass and guitar.
In exciting news, Nicks is set to perform as the musical guest on the October 12 episode of a popular late-night television show, marking her first appearance since 1983. This performance promises to be a significant moment for both Nicks and her fans.
