Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently inaugurated the foundation stone for an Ornamental Fish Trade Centre and multiple other development projects aimed at enhancing North Chennai. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is set to spearhead these initiatives.
The total investment for the Ornamental Fish Trade Centre, community center, and the enhancement of Retteri and Kolathur lakes amounts to ₹115.58 crore, according to an official announcement. During a gathering in Sivasakthi Nagar, the Chief Minister also launched additional projects totaling ₹5.22 crore.
Spanning 3.93 acres, the Ornamental Fish Trade Centre will feature a built-up area of 1.25 lakh square feet and is expected to cost ₹53.50 crore. It will include over 180 shops along with ample parking facilities. The community centre located in Moolakothalam, Royapuram, will be constructed at a cost of ₹14.31 crore.
Plans are also underway for a state-of-the-art public laundry on Conran Smith Road in Purasaiwalkam, which will cover 1.04 acres and cost ₹11.43 crore. This facility will be equipped with washing machines, drying spaces, and parking options. Additionally, both the Puzhal and Kolathur lakes are scheduled to undergo improvements, ensuring enhanced amenities for the public.
The Tamil Nadu government has launched the ‘Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam,’ a comprehensive development initiative designed to invest approximately ₹4,000 crore over the next three years. This plan focuses on identifying key projects vital for the holistic growth of the region.
Ministers and senior officials, including Chennai Mayor R. Priya, participated in the event, underscoring the collaborative effort to drive infrastructure development in North Chennai.
