Team USA captain Stacy Lewis has addressed the dynamics between her team and Team Europe, downplaying any existing tension despite calling the proximity of their team spaces “awkward” and noting it has caused “a few issues” ahead of the highly anticipated Solheim Cup.
As the tournament kicks off at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Team USA seeks its first victory since 2017 while Europe aims to maintain its unbeaten streak in this prestigious competition.
Utilizing their home advantage, the U.S. squad occupies the larger house, leaving Team Europe in a smaller accommodation that is nevertheless conveniently situated near the driving range of the Virginia course.
“The closeness is a little bit awkward with everything being right there, but we’ve worked through a few things,” Lewis stated during a press conference. “We’ve overcome some issues, but overall, we are in a good place now.”
Team USA reportedly expressed concerns over perceived regulations violations by Team Europe regarding their contract for the event. To alleviate potential disruptions, both teams agreed to swap their spots on the driving range.
Elaborating on the situation, Lewis mentioned, “Their team room spilled onto the driving range a bit, but we’ve managed to reel it in. It’s all good.” She continued, explaining how adjustments were made for the team’s convenience, allowing Europe more space to prepare without disturbances.
“We just wanted to ensure everyone had enough space without hearing them during their breakfast. There’s no animosity,” Lewis emphasized.
Veteran player Anna Nordqvist from Team Europe responded, noting, “I don’t know if Team USA is satisfied with their arrangement, but we’re certainly pleased to be positioned right next to the range.”
Nordqvist commended the European team’s efforts in fostering a positive environment among players and support staff, describing it as a well-organized setup contributing to a great atmosphere.
