Gresik, ECNETNews – Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) has confirmed that all operational activities in the industrial area continue to run normally and safely following a fire incident at the sulfuric acid smelter of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) on October 14.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that his team has coordinated with the President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, ensuring that the situation on the ground is under control.
There were no casualties reported as a result of the incident, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
The President Director of JIIPE, Bambang Soetiono, reiterated that the industrial area remains conducive. “Safety and security are our top priorities. We appreciate the swift action of Freeport’s emergency response team, along with the support from government and local security forces, which allowed the fire to be extinguished promptly,” Bambang stated.
Tony Wenas noted that the fire had no negative impact on the surrounding community and environment. “All employees are safe, and we value the assistance from various parties in managing this situation, including local government, security forces, JIIPE, and others who collaborated to ensure that everything remains under control,” he added.
As an industrial area designated as a Special Economic Zone (KEK), JIIPE is classified as a National Vital Object. This status entails strict security and safety protocols to ensure the continuity and stability of operations across the area.
The JIIPE management continues to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure that the conditions in the Gresik Special Economic Zone remain safe and to support the ongoing operations of tenants in the region.
