At long last, Patrick Star, the beloved character from SpongeBob SquarePants, is set to take center stage in his very own video game. Officially announced this week, the title is launching on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders are now available for fans eager to dive into the adventure ahead of its October 4 release. Notably, Nintendo Switch players can opt for a special steelbook edition, while a standard edition will also be available for PlayStation and Xbox users.
The steelbook edition for Nintendo Switch retails for $50 and features the base game along with an exclusive wrap-around cover showcasing Patrick Star’s iconic smile. This is the only physical version of the game that comes with a steelbook, making it a unique collector’s item. For those on PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S, a more budget-friendly standard edition is available for $40, although it lacks the special packaging found in the Switch version.
In this new adventure, players will guide Patrick through the whimsical world of Bikini Bottom. Although Patrick has appeared in various SpongeBob titles before, such as the recent Cosmic Shake, this marks his inaugural solo escapade. Players can expect to explore famous locales like the Krusty Krab and Glove World, all while engaging in a variety of challenges and treasures. Combining elements of both SpongeBob SquarePants and Goat Simulator, the game promises a humorous and fun experience.
In addition to the game, fans can enhance their collection with the new Blu-ray release of the first SpongeBob movie, which is currently available for $31. This 4K edition features a steelbook cover and includes bonus content such as a documentary, music videos, and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Also, for die-hard fans, preorders for DVD box sets containing 100 and 300 episodes of the classic TV show are set to launch on October 15, providing even more SpongeBob content to enjoy.
