Sparks has made headlines this month with the announcement of their upcoming album titled Mad!, set to release on May 23. This new project follows their 2023 album, The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte. The Mael brothers, Ron and Russell, have also unveiled their new single, “JanSport Backpack.” This playful pop track explores themes of fading love through the lens of a beloved, albeit worn-out, backpack.
In conjunction with the album release, Sparks will embark on a major tour this summer. Kicking off on June 8 in Kyoto, Japan, the tour will cover multiple countries, including England, Scotland, France, Germany, and Sweden, culminating in a performance on July 8 in Milan, Italy. Fans can look forward to an exciting line-up of live shows throughout Europe.
Notably, The Girl Is Crying in Her Latte marked a significant return for Sparks, as it was their first release with Island Records since the 1970s. The upcoming album, Mad!, represents a new chapter as the band’s debut with Transgressive.
