In April, Sonos announced a refreshed version of its mobile app, aiming to enhance flexibility, customization, and user experience.
However, following the app’s official launch on May 7, many users encountered significant problems, expressing dissatisfaction over the removal of key features like the “play next” function. This caused considerable frustration, as the Sonos app plays a crucial role in managing home audio systems and accessing music libraries.
Initially, Sonos defended the changes, suggesting that the app overhaul required “courage.” However, in a candid open letter, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence acknowledged the shortcomings of the app’s launch.
“We understand that many of you faced considerable issues with our new app released on May 7, and I want to sincerely apologize for letting you down,” he stated. “Rest assured, rectifying the app experience for all our customers remains our top priority.”
Spence noted that subsequent fixes have improved the experience for most users of the Sonos app. He shared a timeline of planned updates scheduled between July and October, reflecting the challenges faced with this app revision. Notable upcoming adjustments include enhancements in “product addition stability,” “volume responsiveness,” “user interface improvements,” and “overall system stability and error handling.” A detailed list of updates was also provided.
Sonos has committed to delivering software updates on a bi-weekly basis and has requested user patience as it works to restore the app’s functionality.
