The Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, expressed deep condolences to the families affected by the recent tragic events in the Nibo community in Awka South LGA.
During a routine monitoring visit at Eke Market in Awka on Monday, Soludo vowed to bring the individuals responsible for the violence to justice and reinforced his commitment to eradicating cultism in the state.
Reports indicate that at least 13 individuals lost their lives in a cult-related confrontation while the community was celebrating its New Yam festival on Sunday.
Governor Soludo encouraged residents to continue their daily activities, asserting that efforts would intensify to ensure that those responsible will face the consequences of their actions, regardless of where they may try to hide.
He stated, “Every avoidable loss of life in Anambra shatters my heart, especially when young lives are cut short. The mindless violence between rival cults in our communities is heartbreaking.
“The tragic incident in Nibo, where young lives were lost, is unacceptable. We have enacted an anti-cultism law, and I have mandated immediate action against those involved.
“However, legislation alone cannot resolve this issue. I urge parents and community leaders to unite in protecting our youth. It is imperative that we don’t remain passive while our children fall prey to these destructive paths.
“We must take proactive measures within our homes and communities to combat cultism. We will continue to remember the lost souls in our prayers and strive toward a safer Anambra, where everyone adheres to the law and learns from this preventable tragedy.”
