Sheff G has entered a guilty plea for second-degree attempted murder and conspiracy charges in a sweeping 140-count indictment involving him and 31 alleged members of the 8 Trey Crips and 9 Ways gangs. The Brooklyn drill rapper is set to be sentenced on August 13, receiving a five-year prison term followed by five years of post-release supervision, as confirmed by the Brooklyn district attorney’s office.
Eric Gonzalez, the district attorney, emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, “Notoriety could not shield this defendant from justice. He used his fame to fund and direct violence, terrorizing our streets. While we pursued a much longer sentence, he will now be held responsible.” He further declared Brooklyn’s commitment to eradicating gang violence that threatens community safety.
The extensive indictment details serious allegations against Sheff G and his co-defendants, which include shootings, car theft, and firearm possession linked to gang activity. Reports indicate that Sheff G allegedly offered various incentives for acts of violence, including monetary rewards and lavish dinners, collaborated with his sister to conspire against rival gang members, and facilitated transportation for individuals involved in criminal acts. Notably, prosecutors chose not to utilize Sheff G’s lyrics as evidence, adhering to recent legislative changes in New York limiting such practices in court.
Alongside Sheff G, 17 other defendants have already pleaded guilty, while 14 remain in the legal process, including fellow rapper Sleepy Hallow, who faces similar conspiracy and weapons charges. Sheff G had previously pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in November 2021, serving a two-year sentence. In recent years, he was also removed from the lineup of Rolling Loud New York due to concerns raised by law enforcement regarding public safety.
