Bethesda has unveiled exciting new details for the upcoming Starfield DLC, “Shattered Space,” just over a year after the game’s original launch. The reveal included a nine-minute deep dive trailer that showcases the expansion’s features and confirms it will be available starting September 30.
“Shattered Space” focuses on the intriguing House Va’ruun, a faction that players have found particularly compelling. This self-contained adventure takes place on the homeworld of House Va’ruun, known as Va’ruun’kai, and its capital city, Dazra.
During the presentation, producers highlighted their desire to blend the vastness of Starfield’s open galaxy with more localized and intricately designed environments, similar to past expansions. “There’s so much mystery to House Va’ruun! Their isolation made them the perfect faction to explore in a completely self-contained experience,” noted one lead producer.
The narrative kicks off shortly after a catastrophic event that plunges this reclusive civilization into turmoil. The players arrive just weeks after the “Vortex Incident,” a disaster stemming from a botched experiment involving Grave-Drive technology, which resulted in a significant portion of the capital being swallowed by a tear in space-time.
Beyond dealing with the immediate aftermath, the residents of Va’ruun are grappling with a power struggle following the disappearance of Anasko Va’ruun, the faction’s leader. As smaller factions vie for control over the devastated territories, players will navigate through various sub-factions of House Va’ruun, influencing their fate and future.
Art and design elements stand out in Shattered Space, with vibrant visuals that starkly contrast with the desaturated aesthetics of the main game. Players can expect breathtaking environments filled with alien landscapes and unique gravity anomalies, where traditional physics do not always apply.
The expansion introduces over 50 new creatures, including an alien species ominously referred to as “Horrors.” Players will face new challenges as these entities slip through the rift caused by the recent disaster.
“Shattered Space” aims to ramp up the combat experience, introducing players to intense battles with both new and familiar enemies, from zealots to pirates. This expansion can be purchased for $30, while those who invested in the $100 Premium Edition of Starfield will receive it for free on launch day.
Prepare for a thrilling adventure when “Shattered Space” launches on September 30, promising to deepen the immersive experience of the Starfield universe.
