Sevilla Coach Praises Chidera Ejuke Following Match-Winning Performance
Sevilla’s coach García Pimienta has commended Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke for his impressive contribution in their recent 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday. Following a scoreless first half, Ejuke found the net right after the break, marking his second goal in La Liga and securing Sevilla’s ninth win of the season.
This match marked Ejuke’s first start since returning from an injury sustained in January, and he seized the opportunity with a stunning curled shot. Pimienta highlighted Ejuke’s journey back to form and his ability to make a significant impact in a tightly contested match.
“He was in great form before his injury, which kept him out for three months. Now, he has made the most of his opportunity and contributed both offensively and defensively for the team,” Pimienta stated.
While Ejuke was sidelined, Sevilla faced challenges in the squad, leading to the acquisition of Swiss footballer Ruben Vargas. However, Vargas’ recent hip injury opened the door for Ejuke to shine against Real Sociedad.
“Vargas is performing at a high level, but today his hip issues kept him from playing,” the coach added.
With this victory, Sevilla remains unbeaten in five consecutive La Liga away matches for the first time since May 2023, climbing to 10th place in the Spanish league with 36 points from 27 games.
Sevilla will next face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, and Ejuke hopes to join Nigeria’s camp for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, pending his selection for the final squad.
