The landfall process of the severe cyclonic storm Dana commenced on Thursday night, October 24, 2024, and is set to continue into Friday morning, as reported by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The storm has been moving north-northwest at approximately 15 km/h over the last six hours, making landfall between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara district and Dhamra in Bhadrak district, with wind speeds recorded at around 110 km/h, according to a senior official from the IMD.

According to Umashankar Das, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, “The landfall has initiated with the arrival of the outer cloud mass of the system. When the center makes contact with land, wind speeds are anticipated to reach 120 km/h.”
Das emphasized that the landfall process is expected to persist for approximately four to five hours until Friday morning.
In a related update, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed that both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have sought information regarding the Odisha government’s preparedness for the approaching storm.
