The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has reported the arrest of seven suspected miscreants during a protest by commercial vehicle operators in Ilorin, Kwara State, last Thursday.
According to a statement from the NSCDC in Kwara, the suspects were allegedly involved in violent and unlawful conduct during the protest. They have been identified as part of a group responsible for terrorizing local communities in Ilorin.
On September 5, 2024, a complaint was filed by a resident who reported being attacked by a group of youths who forcefully stole her belongings while she was on her way to work. Following this report, NSCDC operatives acted quickly, apprehending the seven suspects linked to the unrest during the protest involving commercial tricycle and motorcycle riders.
A thorough investigation revealed the suspects’ involvement in a broader pattern of theft and violence in the Sango area of Ilorin, where protests were disrupted by hoodlums exploiting the situation. These individuals engaged in theft, causing significant disorder in the metropolis.
Umar Mohammed, the Commandant of NSCDC Kwara State, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining public order and vowed to take stringent action against any parties threatening the safety and security of the region. The statement emphasized that the suspects will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
