New Jersey’s hardcore band Gel has officially announced their breakup, following the recent absence of guitarist Anthony Webster at several performances. The remaining members stated on social media that they are “no longer a band” and have cited a series of “heinous” actions allegedly committed by Webster, which they deem damaging to the group.
As a result of this decision, Gel will no longer participate in any of their upcoming concerts, including highly anticipated tours with major acts and performances at both weekends of Coachella next month.
Formed in 2018 by members of the powerviolence band Sick Shit, Gel included guitarist Matthew Bobko, drummer Zach Miller, and vocalist Sami Kaiser, with Webster joining shortly after. The band initially released a demo tape and a self-titled EP in 2018, later welcoming guitarist Madison Nave. Gel went on to produce two more EPs, 2021’s Violent Closure and 2024’s Persona, along with their full-length album, 2023’s Only Constant.
