Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore N.K. Lokanath addressed critical issues facing cooperative societies during a recent ceremony where he presented the Sahakara Mitra award. He emphasized that overcoming the current challenges within these organizations would yield significant benefits for the broader community.
In his remarks, Lokanath highlighted a troubling trend: a notable lack of leadership is hindering the effective administration of cooperative societies. He pointed out that insufficient training in management practices is compromising the integrity of these vital institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor identified the leadership vacuum as a major obstacle, alongside low member engagement, which further impairs the functionality of these societies. He also noted that restrictions in accessing credit from traditional banking institutions contribute to the stagnation of cooperative growth.
During the event, Lokanath honored several individuals from the hospitality sector with the Sahakara Mitra award, recognizing their contributions to the community. The ceremony was attended by Narayan V. Hegde, president of the society, and other distinguished guests.
