Exciting news from South London as artist Ruthven prepares to launch his debut album, Rough & Ready, set for release on October 25. The highly anticipated album will be released through Paul Institute and XL Recordings. In a thrilling preview, Ruthven has unveiled the fourth track from the album, titled “I Can’t Go There,” accompanied by a music video he co-directed with his wife, Francesca Nelson.
Ruthven first made waves with his debut at Paul Institute in 2017 with the single “Evil.” He has since released notable tracks such as “Don’t Keep It to Yourself,” “123 Days,” and “The Window,” all of which are featured on Rough & Ready. The album boasts contributions from acclaimed artists A. K. Paul and Francis Anthony “Eg” White.
The album title, Rough & Ready, cleverly plays on Ruthven’s stage name—pronounced “Rough’n.” The artist reveals that his experiences performing in a wedding band have shaped the album’s sound, drawing inspiration from iconic yacht rock artists like Michael McDonald and Steely Dan, along with influences from Prince.
