ECNETNews reports that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held a pivotal roundtable meeting with national Olympic committees to discuss potential bids for hosting upcoming Youth Olympic Games. As the countdown to the “Paris 2024” Games progresses, representatives from over ten countries participated in this crucial discussion.
Noteworthy participants included influential figures such as the Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, alongside the President of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee. Mongolia has signaled its interest in hosting either the 2030 or 2034 Summer Youth Olympic Games, as well as the 2027 IOC Conference, which was announced at the recent IOC conference in Mumbai.
The meeting, chaired by a two-time Olympic champion, featured contributions from the chairman of the Dakar 2026 organizing committee and the organizer of Buenos Aires 2018. Their insights provided valuable perspectives on youth engagement in sports, the complexities of athletic competitions, and cultural initiatives associated with the Games.
Since their inception in Singapore in 2010, the Youth Olympic Games have aimed to inspire athletes aged 15-18. The latest edition was held in Gangwon, South Korea, in January 2024. The next Summer Youth Olympic Games are set to take place in Dakar, commencing on October 31, 2026, and will feature over 5,000 athletes competing in 244 events across 35 sports—marking a historic first for the Olympic Games in Africa.
