Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen has made headlines by donating $1 million in XRP to support Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.
The substantial donation was funneled to Future Forward USA, a political action committee backing Harris as she gears up for the 2024 election. This marks a significant step in Larsen’s public support for Harris, following his endorsement in September. Reports indicate that Larsen’s total contributions to Harris’s campaign now exceed $1.9 million.
This donation arrives amid Ripple’s ongoing legal disputes with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which began in 2020 over the classification of XRP as a security. Both parties are currently pursuing appeals following the recent conclusion of the lawsuit.
Kamala Harris and the Crypto Landscape
As the 2024 election approaches, both political parties are actively courting the growing crypto community and its financial backing. The increasing involvement of cryptocurrency advocates underscores the rising impact of digital assets in U.S. politics.
While Harris has remained somewhat reserved on crypto matters, her recent calls for the promotion of innovative technologies like AI and digital assets have piqued the interest of cryptocurrency supporters.
In an effort to strengthen her ties with the crypto sector, Harris’s campaign launched the Crypto4Harris initiative in early August. This initiative aims to foster engagement with crypto enthusiasts and counter Republican strategies aimed at winning over crypto voters by developing a pro-crypto policy framework.
